There are two available tools for flashing .pac file to Android device and mostly an Spreadtrum chipset. a.Research Download Tool and b.Upgrade Download Tool. These tools allows you to flash .pac firmware but it is important to know how to use it.

What is Research download and Upgrade download tools?

These two mentioned tools are computer based software that are used to flash and upgrade SPD android phones.  There are two available tools for flashing .pac file to Android device and mostly an Spreadtrum chipset.

    a.Research Download Tool and

     b.Upgrade Download Tool.

These tools allows you to flash .pac firmware but it is important to know how to use it. Let me show you how research SPD Download Tool / SPD Upgrade Tool are been used.

Note: Get these ready before you use Research/Upgrade tool

• Desktop with Windows operating system (preferable Win 7)
  .pac file to be flash (your device firmware)


• Spreadtrum Drivers.


• SPD Download Tool R2.9.7.002.


• Install SPD drivers.

How to use research or upgrade download tool

1. Open Research Download folder and run ResearchDownload.exe. Load the packet file or .pac file.

2.  Click the first gear icon and locate the .pac file.

3.load packet pac file and it will appear as shown in the image below.

4. If you want to change flash settings. Click the second gear icon. But I recommend to leave the settings to default.

5. Then spd download tool flash settings will popup and you make your selections according to your wishes.

6. After selections you click ok and return to the main research download.
7. Now click the arrow to begin flashing. See the image below.

When you’re done clicking the arrow, turn off your Android phone and wait for atleast 15 seconds. Grab the usb cable, hold volume down and plug your device into the computer. The process should start automatically. You can now release the volume button.

Note: This will take about 30 minutes to an hour depends on the size of the pac file.

8. When you see passed then viola everything is successful!
